As part of our efforts to support sustainable livelihoods, IDI Uganda recently supported nail art vocational training for women in local communities in Mayuge and Amuria Districts.
In September, IDI Uganda conducted a training program in partnership with LADY 141 to equip the participants with practical manicure skills. The training began with the fundamentals, learning about different polish types, basic nail enhancements, and essential hygiene practices before application.
Following the introductory session, trainees learned about different nail art techniques and creating their own press-on nail samples to express their creativity. During the sessions, they practiced nail art on one another, giving opportunities to learn from each other while having beautiful nail art. Working together, sharing ideas, and encouraging each other created a sense of connection among the trainees.

At the end of the program, one of the trainees reflected on the training, quoting
“With my own hands, I can now dream about my future. I’m going to complete the remaining 100 hours of self training and keep improving my skills.”
They were not only equipped with skills, but they built stronger relationships and gained confidence in their own abilities. As they bring what they have learned back to their communities, we hope the participant’s skills and confidence will open new opportunities and become a source of positive changes around them.

IDI Uganda believes that changes begin with individuals. When individuals discover their own potential and experience restoration in their lives, that change can go beyond them, bringing transformation to their families, communities, and, ultimately, the nation. We hope to continue walking alongside individuals as they take steps toward a more hopeful and empowered future.
